Back to Longyearbyen
17/02/2001 - By snowscooter back to Longyearbyen, with lunch stop in Svea. Today the weather is really beautiful and the cold, together with a sun very low on the horizon, even at mid day, produce incredible sky colors going from pink, to orange, to violet, to deep blue.

This is our last day on the snowmobile :-( and we are heading back to Longyearbyen, via Svea. The weather is very good but cold, with unlimited visibility and without a single cloud in the sky. The sun is very close to the horizon and as I turn my head around the sky, I can see a lot of different colors, from deep blue to pink and then to orange. |
| In the opposite direction, where the sun is about to rise, the colors are much more "warm". |
|
The sun is about to return and its beams are hitting the highest peaks with a beautiful pink/orange light. Within about two monts the sun will be above the horizon for 24 hours per day. |
|
| We climb over a top of an hill. It's so cold, that some camera stops working and several my fingers aren't much more better than the cameras... anyway, the fantastic view pays very well. |
| Later we arrive in Svea, a small mining community southeast of Longyearbyen.. |
| En route back to Longyearbyen, early in the afternoon, we start to cross the mountains near svea. | |
|
Soon the sun goes down again and I cannot belive to my eyes when from the top of Sjaktbreen glacier I can see colors like these on the pictures. My impression was to be on another planet: I've stopped my snowmobile and I've started to take a lot of pictures all around. |
| Back in Longyearbyen, under a fantastic and intense blue light. |
