Foliage tour to Vermont - day 1
Drive from Killington, north to Montpelier by rented car

Because of the very dry August and an hot September, this year the foliage autumn fall season was on late and, although is already mid-October, I've had the opportunity to catch peak or near peak colors even at higher altitudes in central and northen areas of Vermont. As stated on http://www.1-800-vermont.com, the foliage this year has been one of the most colorful and long-lasting since 40 years. I've used the Mountain Meadows Lodge in Killington as a base for my daytrips by rented car and on foot. Several daily flights connect Boston to Rutland VT and car rental agents are available at the airport. Killington is 20 minutes drive from Rutland State Airport.

Today I will drive north to Montpelier on routes 12 / 12A and then back to Killington on route 100. I'll also take several secondary roads for additional scenes. The above picture has been taken close to the Mountain Meadows Lodge

	Towns and villages on routes 12 and 12A. The colors of the homes contrasting with the leaves create a lot of photo opportunities and scenes which are impossible to forget. The trees in autumn are really beautiful.

 

Red and orange leaves are particularly nice on white homes and green carpets of grass.

 

Red, orange and yellow trees are also very beautiful when they are mixed with conifers and other green trees. Autumn in Vermont.

 

Trees are also very beautiful when the colors are reflected into water, like on the picture to the left.

This is the typical scenery that I can see while driving between the colorful hills of central Vermont.

 

	On route 100, I continue to get a lot of photo opportunities, indeed this is only a small selection as I've used an average of 1-2 film rolls (36 exposures) each day.
